Ever wanted to learn how to make your own digital illustrations, logos or scalable graphics but don't know where or how to start? Adobe Illustrator is the tool you need, and our workshop will show you how to use it.
Over the course of a day, professional graphic designer and illustrator Dan Spain will guide you through the software in an easy-to-understand and hands-on way.
Through practical learning, you will gain an understanding of the application's core features and tools, then discover how to use them to turn your ideas into versatile, scalable digital images (better known as 'vectors').
Dan will cover basic technical skills such as drawing shapes, curves and anchor points with the pen tool, using custom brushes and patterns, blending for advanced compositions and a whole load more. He will encourage you to think about the design process and experience, as well as discussing how to prepare work for print and digital output.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a newfound confidence in using the software to turn your imagined creations into actual visual elements for future projects.
PS – don't be put off if this sounds too technical. Dan is used to helping people who are somewhat fearful of Adobe Illustrator at first. You won't be the only one who has opened the software, become scared at how complicated it looks then closed it immediately!
What you need to bring
Please bring a fairly decent laptop with Adobe Illustrator CC installed. We won't have any spare laptops available, so this is essential. It's super helpful if you also have a notepad and pen. Also, don't forget your power cable!
You can obtain a free 7 day trial of Adobe Illustrator. Just make sure you do it close to the course date so that you don't run out of days before the session! Sign up for a Creative Cloud account here, then download the Adobe Illustrator trial.
